A MAN from Llanfairfechan was found dead in the sea in the town, an inquest opening heard.

Grahame MacManus, 57, of Garth Wen, died at Llanfairfechan promenade on Friday, September 8.

At the opening of the inquest into his death, held in Ruthin yesterday (September 18), it was heard that police were alerted, shortly after 8am that morning, to a vehicle half-submerged in the sea.

Mr MacManus, a retired electrician born in Belfast, was pronounced dead by a paramedic at 9.30am.

The vehicle, a Porsche Cayenne, was found by police with its boot door open.

Police found Mr MacManus to be the car’s primary insurance holder, before attending his and his wife’s address.

His wife told police she believed he had left their property that morning at 5.30am.

A post-mortem examination was carried out, but a provisional cause of death was deferred pending toxicology results.
