THE refurbishment of a new nursery in Rhyl is all-but finished following its opening in the town earlier this year.

“Little Lambs Pre-School”, based on Sisson Street, opened on April 17 at the building formerly occupied by the Apostolic Church.

It offers 26 places for children aged between two and four years old, and is run by Samantha Maitland-Price, who has run nurseries for 17 years.

Samantha, who also runs similar businesses in Kinmel Bay, Rhyl and Bodelwyddan, bought the property last October.

Though the nursery was ready to open in April, she said she is “so pleased” that the renovations are now “pretty much” done.

She said: “We were ready enough to open in April, but the garden wasn’t finished, and there have been other little bits here and there to finish, like painting the outside of the building.

“The scaffolding came down last weekend, so we’re all pretty much done and ready now. Now, we’re just seeing what works in the space and what doesn’t.

“I won’t lie, it’s been a little bit stressful! I’ve had support from the National Day Nursery Association, who have been amazing.

“I’m massively relieved that the refurbishment is pretty much done. We’re so pleased; it doesn’t look like the same building anymore.”

As of this month, the nursery is also registered with “Flying Start”, a Welsh Government-funded programme offering:

  • Free, part-time childcare for two- to three-year-olds.
  • Help, support and advice for parents.
  • Extra support for children to learn to talk and communicate.
  • An enhanced health visiting service.

Samantha added: “The outdoor space is a blank canvas at the moment; we’re hoping to spend some time this year developing it.

“We’ve kept one of the big trees, and kept a little ‘growing area’ for plants and flowers, just to deck it out, really. The children are loving it; it’s just amazing.

“We’d be going out every day, to the park or to Brickfield Pond, which we’ve not stopped doing, but it’s nice to have our own space outside, where the children can just ‘free play’.”
