A COLLEGE in Rhos-on-Sea has denied allegations that it has removed a student from a course after they witnessed fellow pupils kick a seagull “as a football”.

An internal investigation is underway at Coleg Llandrillo after claims pupils used a seagull “as a football" before it eventually died on September 11.

The seagull, known as Thomas, was given medicine and pain relief by wild bird charity Foundation for Feathered Friends before later dying.

The charity said the incident was witnessed by one of its volunteers, also a student at the college.

This student reported seeing “a group of youths using Thomas as a football of sorts passing him between each other”, and upon trying to intervene said one of the group “threw him down so that he landed heavily on his side”.

However, the charity has now claimed that the student who reported the matter had been “kicked off her Art course at the college on the grounds of poor attendance and her ‘heart not being in it’”.

They also said that the matter had been reported to the RSPCA and North Wales Police.

In response, the college has stated no learners who had been interviewed had been removed from their course and that the investigation was ongoing.

A spokesperson for Grŵp Llandrillo Menai said: "We have interviewed a number of learners as part of our investigation into the alleged incident, and can confirm that no learner interviewed as a witness has been withdrawn from their course.

“Grŵp Llandrillo Menai will not be making any further comment at this time because the investigation is ongoing."
