PLANS for a new 21-home development in Penrhyn Bay have been held up by the news that the firm contracted to deliver the scheme has entered voluntary liquidation.

Mochdre-based Brenig Construction was confirmed to have gone into voluntary liquidation last week.

It had been awarded the contract to carry out the Plas Penrhyn affordable homes project by Gwynedd-based housing association, Adra.

Plans for 21 affordable homes near GP surgery in Penrhyn Bay continues to progress

Adra said the scheme is “still in its early stages” and will look for other contractors to complete the works.

A spokesperson for Adra Housing Association said: “Adra received news on Wednesday that Brenig Construction Limited had entered voluntary liquidation. This is very sad news for the company.

“Since we received the news, we have taken urgent action to protect our site where Brenig Construction were active.

“The Penrhyn Bay development includes new homes of mixed tenures including social and intermediate rent.

“The development is still in its early stages; once we have reviewed the works completed to date, we will then be starting discussions with other contractors to ensure the continuity of work on the site.”

This development will comprise two- and three-bedroom houses, as well two-bedroom bungalows.

The homes will be a mixture of social rent, intermediate rent, and low-cost home ownership.

Brenig Construction, which was created in 2012 by Mark Parry and Howard Vaughan, was also the principal contractor for Denbighshire County Council’s Llwyn Eirian scheme in Denbigh.

This high-tech renewable estate of new Denbigh homes, on Henllan Street, will provide 22 low-carbon semi-detached houses available for social rent.
