A WOMAN who caused a man “life-changing” injuries after she hit him with her car while drink-driving in Llandudno has been suspended from practising as a nurse.

Charlotte Brown, 34, of Cysgod y Castell, Llandudno Junction, was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment on October 31, after hospitalising Mark Davies, 48, on January 28.

At a virtual hearing of the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s fitness to practise committee, held on December 8, Brown was handed an interim suspension order lasting 18 months.

Brown, who was present and unrepresented at the hearing, will serve half of her 16-month sentence in prison before being released on licence.

She has been registered as a mental health nurse since September 2017.

On October 31, Caernarfon Crown Court heard that just before 11.25pm on January 28, Brown was driving a Volkswagen Polo vehicle along Crogfryn Lane, when she hit Mr Davies.

Mr Davies, a pedestrian, suffered such serious injuries that he spent the following three-and-a-half months after the incident in hospital.

The incident caused him severe head and brain injuries, multiple facial fractures, and deep injuries to his thighs.

He has also lost the use of his right arm, cannot speak properly, and is unable to walk without support.

Brown, a mother-of-one who had no previous convictions, will have her interim suspension order reviewed every six months.

As well as her prison sentence, she was also handed a disqualification from driving for two years and eight months, and must then pass an extended re-test before the ban is lifted.

Judge Nicola Saffman, who sentenced Brown in October, told her: “I cannot imagine, and I have never seen, more serious injuries, in a case of this nature.”
