Five beaches in Gwynedd and Anglesey have been revealed as the best for dogs in Wales by a recent study. 

Saundersfoot Beach, in Pembrokeshire, was named the best beach in Wales to take your dog, while beaches in locations such as Trearddur Bay, Abersoch and Harlech also made the list created by West Wales Holiday Cottages. 

The experts at West Wales Holiday Cottages analysed a range of factors to come up with the list including the number of dog-friendly accommodations and eateries, average temperatures, and water quality.

The experts said: "For those who love to be near the beach and also want to share that joy with their four-legged friends, England and Wales have plenty of options.

"A dog-friendly holiday is a perfect way to escape the daily grind and spend quality time with your furry friend.

"Booking a coastal holiday cottage is one of the best options for dog-friendly holidays, as they usually allow pets, making your stay comfortable and convenient.

"But which beaches around England and Wales are the best for dog owners?"

The best beaches in Wales, according to West Wales Holiday Cottages, are:

  3. Llangrannog Beach, Ceredigion
  4. Traeth Trearddur, Anglesey
  5. Whitesands Bay, St David's, Pembrokeshire
  6. Castle Beach, Tenby, Pembrokeshire
  7. Harlech Beach, Gwynedd
  8. Aberdyfi Beach, Gwynedd
  9. Langland Bay, Mumbles, Swansea
  10. Tenby North Beach, Pembrokeshire
  11. Abersoch Harbour Beach, Gwynedd
  12. Aberporth Beach, Ceredigion

The beaches in Gwynedd and Anglesey among the best in Wales for dogs

Barmouth Beach

Barmouth Beach was ranked the second best in Wales for dogs with an overall score of 6.04 out of 10.

The experts at West Wales Holiday Cottages said: "Barmouth Beach comes in close second, boasting an “excellent” water quality rating and 77% of accommodation options in the town allow pets.

"It also has a high review score among those to have visited, at 4.8 and has clocked up over 18,000 posts on Instagram."

Traeth Trearddur

West Wales Holiday Cottages said: "Fourth place goes to Traeth Trearddur, with an overall score of 5.83.

"This beach in Anglesey has a water quality rating of “excellent” and has a very high rating of 4.8 out of 5 with visitors.

"It’s among the island’s most popular beaches and has an average temperature of 10.9°C, the highest in the top five."

Harlech Beach

Harlech Beach was ranked seventh on the West Wales Holiday Cottages list with an overall score of 5.24. 

Similar to Traeth Trearddur, the beach in Harlech also boasted a water quality rating of “excellent” and had a rating of 4.8 out of 5 with visitors.

Aberdyfi Beach

Aberdyfi Beach was ranked eighth best in Wales for dogs.

It had an overall score of 5.11 out of 10 from the West Wales Holiday Cottages study and a review score of 4.7 (out of 5).

Abersoch Harbour Beach

Abersoch Harbour Beach was rated the eleventh best beach in Wales for dogs with a score of 5.

As well as an "excellent" rating for water quality, the beach in Abersoch was also one of the most popular beaches on the list when it came to social media with 14,396 Instagram posts about the beach.
