A STUNNING mansion near Llandudno Junction could become a 25-bedroom boutique hotel, after plans were submitted.

The Grade II listed Marle Hall, dates back more than a century, and had been used as a convalescent and nursing home in the past.

The site was bought by Warwickshire council in 1971 and was used as an learning centre, providing residential trips and courses for schoolchildren until it closed in October 2021.

Sold at auction soon after, the building had been set to house asylum seekers earlier this year until a public backlash lead to the plan being shelved.

Now, owners Marle Hall Holdings have applied to turn the building into a hotel, which they say will bring tourism benefits to the area.

They intend to use it as a venue for a variety of functions, such as weddings, with the site to also provide spa services with the intention of establishing it as a “destination” hotel.

Director Craig Lambie told the Pioneer: “We are asking to convert the hall to a 25 suite boutique hotel. The plan is to keep the existing dining room and kitchen for hotel guests to dine/ breakfast in.

“We are looking to operate the venue as a beautiful background to weddings across 15-20 weeks of the summer. Wedding parties will book out the whole facility for three days (either Thursday to Saturday night or Sunday to Tuesday night) having their big wedding party on one of the days, and plenty of time between to actually talk to their guests.

“The big event will employ at least 10 part time staff for the whole day a couple of days a week, and local catering companies will benefit from the event too. Along with full time summer staff at the venue for the housekeeping, kitchen and operation of the venue.

“The winter period will see people coming to enjoy the local mountain biking, hiking and skiing take over the space to enjoy the luxurious facilities after a hard day out in the North Welsh Winter weather beating their bodies.

“Although lower levels of staff, we plan to offer guests massage, spa and sauna facilities to ease their tired muscles after a day out. Marle Hall will be a destination hotel, bringing five-star visitors to Conwy and Snowdonia, visiting and enjoying the local attractions and spending money in the local businesses.

“The team will be actively marketing to prospective guests in Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester and Chester and offering excellent service to compliment the beautiful historic building that is Marle hall.

“The restoration to the original mansion style accommodation will ensure this historic listed building is maintained to a high standard, and the rooms used in a style of the original owner’s intent - for a couple entertaining their guests.”

The proposal is being considered by planners at Conwy County Borough Council.
