STUART Loughland of Magic Light Productions has been cast in a role he has wanted to play for years!

Stuart is playing the title character in pantomime Mother Goose.

Mother Goose, which runs from December 23 until January 6 at Theatr Colwyn, is possibly the oldest story to be turned in to a pantomime. It tells the story of Mother Goose and her enchanted Goose, Priscilla, who embark on an adventure filled with laughter, love and valuable life lessons.

Stuart said: "Mother Goose is the only pantomime that has actually got the dame's name in the title. It's probably one of the oldest pantomimes that exists.

"Not a lot of people know the story but at the time it was to do with nursery rhymes and the shows were not a pantomime, but a story. They did a show in the evening for the adults and they would do a children's version where Mother Goose would be like the host of the show and introduce all the other acts as nursery rhyme characters.

"I've always wanted to play this role, for years! With it not being as well known, we [Magic Light Productions] decided to do more well-known titles first and then people enjoy what we do and then we decided to actually go for Mother Goose in the end.

"A chance for me to do some 'real acting'!

"I love pantomime, I look forward to it every year. I love Christmas anyway but it makes my Christmas to do pantomime."

This adaption, by Magic Light Productions, stars panto favourites Stuart (Mother Goose), Libby Loughland (Fairy Vanity) and Steve Bloor (Billy Goose) as well as Joanna Pierce-Jones (Jill Gander) and Hannah Rose Silfeet (Fairy Virtue).

RELATED STORIES

In the story, Mother Goose is used as an example by two fairies; a goose, that lays golden eggs, is sent to her and suddenly she has got all the riches in the world but she quickly becomes bored.

Asked if he would like a goose that lays golden eggs himself - and if he would keep it a secret - Stuart replied: "I'd share it. I would share it with everybody. I would have that many golden eggs to go round!"

The pantomime features Pearl Shaw School of Performing Arts.
