A NEW salon in Colwyn Bay has been shortlisted for nine prizes at the 2024 UK Hair and Beauty Awards.

Strands N Hands, at 135a Abergele Road, opened for business on November 14, with owner Zoe Walker and manager Tasha Styles nominated for two and three awards each respectively.

Staff members Sheridine McFarlane and Joanne Taylor are also up for an award each, while the salon as a whole is in the running for “best salon team” and “best new salon”.

Liberty Bowler makes up the team at Strands N Hands, who will discover how many of the awards they have won at the ceremony on June 1 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.

Zoe described the nominations so soon into the salon’s journey as “just incredible”.

She said: “We’ve had such a busy few weeks since we launched; we’ve raised just shy of £1,000 for Conwy Food Bank, and welcomed over 350 clients through the door in December.

“To receive these finalist certificates is an absolute testament to the team.

“The girls within the team, as well as myself, are continuously striving to improve their skills, and are taking on additional training in 2024, so that we can offer even more treatments, as well as become educators to train others who want to join our industry.”

Just shy of four years ago, Zoe began working in hair and beauty, with the dream of ultimately opening her own salon.

She and Tasha worked together at My Prerogative, also in Colwyn Bay, before she went on to open Strands N Hands at the end of last year.

Zoe added: “We built it in 26 days, working around our normal schedules; doing 16-hour days on our days off and working 12-hour days in the temporary salon before heading over to Strands N Hands to continue renovating.

“I knew I wanted to have my own salon one day, but never anticipated it would be within the first five years - especially when a global pandemic turned up just as I was qualifying.

“We will be looking forward to welcoming new treatments and salon team members.”

A successful opening event at the salon was held on Saturday, November 11, which featured canapés, cocktails, music, a raffle, discounts, “meet the team”, and giveaways.

Proceeds from the event were also donated to Mind, the mental health charity.

Strands N Hands will be open from 9am to 6pm from Monday to Thursday, and 8am until 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
