A BOY from Abergele was taken to hospital and arrested after being seriously injured following an incident involving an electric bike in Anfield, Liverpool yesterday (January 11).

At about 7.30pm, an officer on foot spotted two males not wearing helmets on an e-bike on Priory Road, and signalled for them to stop.

The two males on board subsequently came off the bike; the rider, a 17-year-old male from Abergele, sustained serious injuries to his legs and head.

Though, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

He has also been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and possession of a class B controlled drug.

The passenger, a 15-year-old male from Everton, ran off into Anfield Cemetery, but was detained by officers a short while later.

He was also taken to hospital to be treated for superficial injuries, and has since been discharged.

The passenger was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a class B controlled drug, and has been taken to a police station where he will be questioned by detectives.

Nobody else was injured in the crash.

Officers from Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit are carrying out an investigation into the incident and forensic examinations have taken place at the scene.

The incident has been referred by Merseyside Police to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Chief Inspector Tom Welch said: "I would like to take this opportunity to ask any motorists who were driving along Priory Road and witnessed the incident or captured it on dash cam footage to call us, as information they have could assist us with our enquiries."
