GARY LINEKER has been invited to the home of Cymru Premier team Bala Town, after joking about Wales’ top tier of football.

The former England star and host of Match of the Day had made a light-hearted joke about the division, calling it a “farmers’ league”.

His comment followed the Newport County vs Manchester United FA Cup tie, in which a home team striker was a dairy farmer.

Bala Town responded to his comment by extending an invite to the BBC presenter, tweeting: “Happy to have Gary Lineker pop down to Maes Tegid one day to experience our ‘farmers league’.”

Responding on X, formerly known as Twitter, Lineker said that his comment was a reference to Will Evans's background as a farmer.

While working on his father's farm in Powys, Evans played in the JD Cymru Premier for Cardiff Met and Bala Town.

After the match at Rodney Parade, Lineker told viewers: "He was working on a farm 18 months ago and played for Bala Town.

"He's gone from farmers' league to the big time in the FA Cup."
