MORE than 70 fundraisers took on a cold-water sea dip on Colwyn Bay beach all to raise vital funds for better mental health.
Conwy Mind Seal Splash, hosted by Conwy Mind, took place on Sunday, February 4.
Many participants wore colourful fancy dress outfits, or bright swimming costumes, to enter the chilly waters.
An incredible £6,900 was raised for the charity.
Nikki Jones, Fundraising and Community Engagement Officer, said: "Talking about how you really feel can sometimes cause you to freeze and can also take your breath away. It’s a courageous thing to do so Conwy Mind introduced a challenge that replicates the emotions of someone struggling to talk about how they feel. It made people freeze and certainly took their breath away.
"71 participants took on the cold-water sea dip.
"We would like to say thanks to generous sponsors Tom Owen and Son Funeral Directors. All the money raised went direct to Conwy Mind to support their free services that help so many people struggling with their mental health.
"High winds didn’t dampen people’s spirits and even if people didn’t fancy a dip, they turned up to cheer everyone on. The generosity throughout the day was overwhelming with so many donations and people entering the raffle. In total from ticket entry, fundraising, the raffle, and donations Seal Splash raised an incredible £6,900 for Conwy Mind.
"It is hoped to become one of Conwy Mind’s annual fundraisers."
John Hatton, one of the charity promoters, said: “We had a great event at Colwyn Bay, the Seal Splash, a Sea Dip organised by Conwy Mind to raise funds. I was asked to help with the event and it was a tremendous success with the intention of raising a few thousand pounds.
“We eventually made £6,900. It was a really great atmosphere, and even the weather was kind to us."
Entrants paid a £5 donation fee to take part. Those who collected £50 or more towards Conwy Mind received a special crocheted Seren the Seal souvenir.
Conwy Mind offer a range of free services to support those struggling with their mental health in Conwy, Anglesey, and Gwynedd.
