A MET Office amber warning for ice and snowfall has been issued for parts of North Wales.

This warning is in place from 8am until 3pm tomorrow (Thursday, February 8).

The Met Office says that snow and ice is expected to cause disruption across North Wales and northwest Shropshire on Thursday.

Conwy, Denbighshire and Gwynedd are among the regions likely to be affected.

In its warning, the Met Office added: “Snow is expected to develop during Thursday morning and become persistent and at times heavy before slowly easing later in the day.

“As milder air begins to arrive from the south, there is a chance that snow could turn to freezing rain across some higher routes above 200 metres.

“Across the warning area, 10-15 cm of snow is expected quite widely but some places, particularly those above 200 metres, may see 20-25 cm of snow.

“Strong and gusty easterly winds may lead to some drifting in places.”

What to expect:

  • Travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers.
  • Some delays and cancellations to rail travel are likely.
  • There is a good chance that some rural communities could be temporarily cut off.
  • Untreated pavements and cycle paths likely to be impassable with injuries from slips and falls likely on icy surfaces.
  • Power cuts are possible and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.
