A HOTEL in the centre of Llandudno is undergoing an extensive makeover, months after an ill-timed food hygiene inspection said “major” work was needed at the site.

The Broadway Hotel, at 1 Mostyn Broadway, was given a one-out-of-five score on September 6, despite not having a functioning kitchen at the time.

The report into the business rated its hygienic food handling ‘good’, the cleanliness and condition of its facilities ‘improvement necessary’, and its management of food safety ‘major improvement necessary’.

However, the hotel explained that the inspector was “not happy with the ongoing building” and the structural side of the work – work that was unavoidable.

The hotel is in the process of moving its kitchen from the basement level to the ground floor, and hopes to complete the work and open the new kitchen by the start of next month at the latest.

They said they were also informed that rebooking an inspection would be futile, given the incomplete state of the refurbishment.

A spokesperson for the hotel told the Pioneer: “The council officer came to do the food rating and he was not happy with the ongoing building – basically, he was not happy with the structural section.

“We are making a brand new kitchen on the ground floor, moving the kitchen from the basement and were stuck with building regulation people supposed to visit and give us instructions.

“They took long time to do that - our kitchen is almost ready and we are hoping we can open at the end of this month or beginning of next month.”

Built in 1865, The Broadway Hotel offers a range of double, twin, single or feature rooms complete with en-suite facilities, and a restaurant.
