LITTLE ones eagerly awaiting the opening of a paddling pool were given an update from contractors working on site.

Rhos-on-Sea paddling pool was one of four paddling pools not to open to residents and visitors last Summer. Pools in Craig y Don, Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr also stayed shut following fears that people will slip over.

On February 29, children from Playful Explorers Childcare visited the paddling pool site in Rhos.

Rhos-on-Sea childminder Laura Timmis said contractors were "brilliant" at answering the children's questions.

Laura said: "I spend lots of time outside with my mindees engaged in child-led play. On Thursday, we went on a walk to Rhos on Sea paddling pool park.

"While we were there, we saw contractors busy working on the paddling pool, getting the site ready for its summer opening.

"One of the mindees in particular loves construction and they all loved watching the men at work. The children wanted to know what they were doing, why they were doing it, and what products they were using!

"The construction workers kindly took the time to answer all the questions they had, and were happy for us to watch them while they worked. We will have another visit next week to watch the concrete being poured in.

"Like lots of of local children, the children in my care are really excited for the paddling pool to be open this year."

Conwy County Borough Council have confirmed that following refurbishment, all four paddling pools will reopen for the 2024 summer season.

Cllr Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure said: “This has been a major investment to secure the long term future of these much loved community assets."

In Rhos-on-Sea, Conwy County Borough Council commissioned a structural engineer due to problems with penetrating ground water.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: "The defective concrete slabs were fully exposed so that the required repairs can be carried out."
