A COUPLE of directors of a North Wales law firm will climb Mount Kilimanjaro later this year to raise money for charity.

Ron Davison, managing director of Gamlins Law, and fellow director Dafydd Roberts will attempt to scale Africa’s tallest mountain in September.

The pair will be raising vital funds for two causes, Prostate Cancer and LawCare, the mental health charity for the legal sector.

As part of his preparation, Ron is also taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Run 62 Miles in March challenge.

Ron and Dafydd will fly to Tanzania on September 2 with eight other people in their group, with seven days set aside to climb the 5,895m (19,340ft) mountain.

The pair are keen walkers and since the start of the year have walked various mountains in North Wales as part of their preparation including Crimpiau, Moel Siabod, Cader Idris, Tryfan, Glyder Fawr, Castell y Gwynt and Glyder Fach.

Ron said: “We regularly go walking at weekends and are fortunate to have Snowdonia on our doorstep, but climbing Kilimanjaro will be a huge challenge for both of us.

“We are also hoping to raise as much money as possible for LawCare and Prostate Cancer. My father died from prostate cancer, so it is a cause that means a lot to me personally.

“Before then, I’m looking forward to completing Cancer Research UK’s Run 62 Miles in March challenge, raising as much as I can for another great charity.

“As a business, we are big believers in the importance of community and actively encourage and provide the time for our colleagues to volunteer and raise funds for a range of charities.”

Meanwhile, colleague and trainee solicitor Alicia Cooke will be running the London Marathon on April 21 in aid of the mental health charity Mind.

Alicia had never run more than 5km before signing up last July to run next month’s marathon.

She said: “I have been helped a lot by my nan who has run nine marathons and is still running even following major heart surgery!

“I haven’t set myself a target time – I just want to get across the finishing line.”

Gamlins Law, which employs more than 80 people, has six offices across North Wales including its head office in Rhyl and further offices in Ruthin, Mold, Abergele, Holywell and Denbigh.
