TWO YOUNG boys from Flintshire have raised over £1,600 by taking on a running challenge for charity throughout this month.

Friends Jacob Appleton and Gethin Griffiths have been doing so in memory of loved ones and in aid of Parkinson's UK.

Jacob, from Gwernymynydd, is running in memory of grandad Herbert, while Gethin, from Nercwys, is doing it for his great grandad Roger Bradburne Griffiths.

The pair, aged 11 and 12 years old, have so far raised £1,700 through their fundraiser - which can be donated to here -  smashing their initial £500 target.

As of Wednesday (March 27), they have run 90k - leaving them with just 10k of their target left to complete by the weekend.

The duo - who became friends through Mold Rugby Club when they were around four and five years old - have been fitting their running in around their other activities.

Jacob, who attends Alun School in Mold, has been running during his birthday and a rugby tour, while Gethin - a pupil at  Maes Garmon - has had some big football and rugby matches on.

Most of their running has been completed via a treadmill at home or at the gym after school, Jacob's mum Sam said.

However, they are aiming to complete their final run outdoors.

On their fundraiser page, the pair wrote: "We have challenged ourselves to run 100K in March to raise money for Parkinson's UK. Gethin's Grandad and Jacob's Great Grandpa both suffered with Parkinson's so we wanted to support the charity.

"We will have to work around school, rugby training, Gethin's footy, big rugby matches, Jacob's birthday, and rugby tour so please donate if possible."
