A TEENAGER from Llandudno who threatened to stab a man whose tyres he also slashed has been spared jail despite breaching the terms of his suspended custodial sentence.

Charley Jones, 19, of Maes Y Cym, was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, at Caernarfon Crown Court on August 3, 2023.

He had previously pleaded guilty to threatening a person with a bladed article in public.

Jones was ordered to complete a “thinking skills” programme and 60 days’ rehabilitation activity requirements, and was excluded from pubs and nightclubs for one year, as part of his suspended sentence.

But Jones returned to Caernarfon Crown Court today (April 12), having failed to attend a “thinking skills” session.

Barrister Elen Owen told the court that he failed to attend the session on February 26, having had a warning issued to him a week prior.

Jones, when questioned by Judge Nicola Saffman, said he is living with his mother, and working four days a week as a labourer.

He has missed appointments due to being ill, he said.

Judge Saffman told him: “You’re 19 years old. You got yourself in a mess, didn’t you?

“When I’m ill, I come to work. If I don’t come to work, nobody gets dealt with. If probation think you’re looking ill, they’ll send you back (home).

“You’ve got to start looking after yourself. We want you to succeed on this order. I don’t want to see you again, in the nicest possible way.

“We want you to have a chance to put this behind you and crack on.”

Judge Saffman ordered Jones to pay a £50 fine and £100 in costs for breaching the suspended sentence, which was ordered to continue rather than be activated.

She added: “I’m only fining you £50 today. Ordinarily, I would do something worse.

“You’ve got a lot to look forward to. You’ve got a lot that other people don’t have; make the most of it, and get this order finished.”
