Blackburn Coronation Street star, Alex Bain, has posted an emotional message after filming his final scenes for the ITV soap.

While his exit from the soap is yet to be officially confirmed by ITV, Alex has 'confirmed' that his character Simon Barlow is set to leave the show after 15 years.

On Instagram he said: “That’s a wrap for Simon Barlow. Thank you to [everyone] at Coronation Street for the best 15 years of my life.

“Might be grey skies but I adore [ITV filming studios] so much. Love you all my Corrie family.”

Now aged 22, Alex joined Coronation Street in 2008 aged just seven years old.

The show’s producers have given Alex many challenging and hard-hitting storylines over the years, including when the rogue teen became abusive towards his step-mum Leanne Battersby after she adopted him.

In 2011, Alex was awarded Best Young Performance at the British Soap Awards

In the past, Alex has hinted about his exit from the show.

Last month he uploaded a picture of his Coronation Street dressing area and said he is going to “miss the little space so dearly” adding that he is grateful to have “some shooting days left”.

It has been reported that Alex “begged” show bosses to return to the show.

An ‘insider’ reportedly told a national newspaper that bosses decided it was his time to move on

They said: “Alex has been putting on a brave face saying he quit the show but in reality bosses decided it was time for him to move on.

“It’s been incredibly emotional for Alex and he really doesn’t want to leave at all.

“He’s been begging bosses to keep him in mind for the future. He wants to go back already.”

ITV has been approached for comment.
