A COUPLE in Rhyl have started a private caravan rental company in a bid to “combat scammers online”.

Robert Mogsa, 39, and partner Justin Quine, 34, have set up JAR Holidays and Short Breaks, and after starting with two caravans, they now manage 28 through the business.

These span five caravan parks in Towyn, Kinmel Bay, Rhyl and Prestatyn - Golden Sands Holiday Park, Ty Mawr, Lyons Lido Beach, Lyons Robin Hood, and Millers Cottage Caravan Park.

After working in the hospitality industry in Liverpool and Accrington, Robert said he and Justin “took a chance” after his aunt asked if they could move to Rhyl to manage a couple of caravans.

The business has gone from strength to strength since they set it up, he said.

Robert said: “We took the chance and moved down, where we noticed the online side of booking a caravan was full of people being scammed left, right and centre.

“So we decided to use our business and Internet skills.

“I was looking for a way to help, so I designed a website, approached caravan owners and met some new ones, and got them on board.

“We videoed and photographed the caravans, verified that they owned it, and then put them on our website. We work alongside the parks to help them if they’re overbooked, so it’s a good little friendship.”

Robert added: “It’s gone absolutely amazingly so far. We can’t say no to more businesses, because we’re helping people.

“There are a lot of people losing their caravans, so we’ve really helped people stay on their parks and keep them.

“We charge a customer a fee, but we don’t then take a percentage. The growth of the business has been so rapid – it’s such an easier life than 14-hour shifts in bars!”
