A COUPLE of friends from Rhyl are to walk 50 miles from Llandudno to Chester in July in aid of a charity and in memory of one of their mothers.

Emma Runcie and Debbie Hoyle, who have been friends for nearly 20 years, are hoping to raise £2,400 for the British Heart Foundation when they embark on their 24-hour trek on July 19.

It will take them from Llandudno Pier to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa in Chester, and is in support of a charity “close to our hearts” following the death of Debbie’s mother, Joan.

Emma, a 34-year-old senior recruitment officer at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, admitted it is a “huge” challenge for her and Debbie, who runs Royal Bakes in Rhyl.

She said: “It’s just to help fund the research and training that the British Heart Foundation dos.

“We’ll take the coastal path from Llandudno as far as we can go, then along the river and into Chester, come out by the racecourse, and then across to the DoubleTree.

“We’re doing a lot of training for it – we’re apprehensive, but we’re looking forward to it.

“We’ve done things like skydives and sponsored walks for charities before, but all on a smaller scale to this.”

Emma and Debbie have also organised a raffle, which will be drawn on June 30, the proceeds from which will be put towards their fundraising total.

A number of businesses have already offered prizes for the raffle, while they will be carrying a bucket for donations with them when they set off from Llandudno at 5pm on July 19.

“While we’re walking, we’re hoping we’ll get more donations towards our target,” Emma added.

“We’ve got family and friends coming to meet us along the way, so we’ll be having a bucket for donations as we’re walking, as well.”
