TRAVELLERS have set up camp at the base of Conwy Castle walls, near to Porth-y-Felin school.
Several residents have voiced concern about the traveller community pitching up on the field on Llanrwst Road.
It is understood the travellers have also set up a camp on Morfa Bach car park.
Conwy County Borough Castle have been approached for comment.
A resident said: "The travellers have set up camp at the base of the castle walls, next to Porth y Felin school. There are several large caravans, vans, chippers.
"I approached them [over the weekend] to ask what their plans were as they were using a public car park. They said they were all on contract work to manage trees and that they would be there for sometime. I also approached a group of children and asked them where they were from - they said 'we live here now'.
"Nobody was rude or abusive."
The resident added: "My concern was that I saw toilet paper and excrement on the steps. I can’t of course be sure it was them, but there is a lot of litter being accumulated and the large gas cylinders are a concern together with large fires which I do think, in fairness, they are using a fire pit.
"I understand they are travellers and need places to pitch up but they are at the site of a world heritage location in an overflow carpark.
"I can imagine this will cause significant issues in the town, especially on a bank holiday weekend."
The resident has informed the council of their concerns to do with litter and human waste.
No response has been received as yet.
Another resident informed the Pioneer that travellers had pitched up on Morfa Bach Car Park.
The reader said: "It is hoped they will soon continue on their way. There is concern that there will be a mess to clear when they have moved on and this will obviously cost our community money."
Cllr Emily Owen, of Conwy Ward, said: "Lots of people have been in touch with me about a traveller community on Morfa Bach car park in Conwy. Conwy County Borough Council are aware and we are actively engaging with the community and other services.
"It is my understanding that the travelling community don't plan on staying very long and we are working with them and other services to help them continue to the next stage of their journey."
