AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a teenager whose disappearance in Llandudno prompted a major search operation.
The body of Athrun Dominic Lombardo, 16, was recovered on Wednesday, May 14, having been reported missing by his mother, Catherine, four days earlier.
Athrun, of Emersons Green, South Gloucestershire, was pronounced deceased at 8.10pm on May 14 by a paramedic at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution station in Conwy.
At County Hall, Ruthin this afternoon (June 2), John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales (East and Central) opened the inquest into Athrun’s death.

The brief hearing was told that, following a post-mortem examination, a provisional cause of death of drowning has been recorded.
Mr Gittins said Athrun, along with his parents and brother, had been visiting his maternal grandparents, who live in Llandudno, and were staying in an Airbnb.
On May 10, North Wales Police received a call from Athrun's mother, reporting that her son was missing from the West Shore area of Llandudno.
“Sadly, that search culminated in the finding of Athrun and the recovery of his body at sea off West Shore beach,” Mr Gittins said.
Adjourning the inquest, the coroner said that “further inquiries will be undertaken” before it resumes.
Athrun’s mother attended today’s hearing via videolink.
