THE 80th anniversary of VJ Day was commemorated on Llandudno promenade at the weekend.
VJ Day - or Victory over Japan Day - is the name given to the day on 15 August, 1945 when Japan surrendered, bringing a complete end to the Second World War.
Almost 30,000 British soldiers died fighting Japan, and more than 12,000 British prisoners of war died in Japanese captivity.
Members of the Llandudno Branch of the Royal British Legion were joined by Clwyd & Gwynedd Army Cadet Force (including sea cadets and marine cadets), civic representatives, and veterans for a service of remembrance.
A spokesperson for the Llandudno Branch of the Royal British Legion said: "Thank you to all who attended our VJ80 service at Llandudno War Memorial this morning.
"It was poignant to see so many people take time out of their day to pay their respects to the Llandudno men who died in the Far East and throughout the Second World War.
"Special thanks to The Reverend Canon Philip Barratt, Rosina Hearn Arthur Hughes sings Ruth Coleman Jones and Llandudno Town Band Lord-Brown & Harty Ltd Glynne Davies, St John Ambulance Cymru, Conwy County Borough Council, Clwyd & Gwynedd Army Cadet Force, Conwy County Sea Cadets and Jon Harty for the photographs."
Clwyd & Gwynedd Army Cadet Force said: "Organised by the Llandudno Branch of the Royal British Legion, the event honoured local servicemen who served in the Far East, many of whom never returned.
"The service combined heartfelt tributes, moments of silence, and a strong sense of unity across the community.
"Afterwards, the promenade was filled with activity as Llandudno Detachment, the Royal British Legion, other service organisations, and the Royal Welsh Fusilier Museum from Caernarfon hosted engaging displays and information stands.
"Visitors explored the history of the Armed Forces and learned about the many opportunities the Army Cadets offers to both young people and adults.
"The day celebrated remembrance, pride, and community spirit – honouring the sacrifices of the past while inspiring the next generation to serve and achieve."
