MERCHANT Navy Day takes place next week, and will see the Red Ensign be flown around the UK and other countries.
This is to commemorate the loss of more than 30,000 merchant seafarers during the Second World War.
The North Wales branch of the Merchant Navy Association will be conducting a service at 11am on Sunday, September 7 at the Llandudno War Memorial to pay a special tribute to the six young boy seamen aged just 15 and 16 years old from North Wales who died whilst serving on board their merchant ships during the war.
The service will be attended by many dignitaries including Darren Millar, Senedd Member, the Mayor & Mayoress, Deputy Mayor & Mayoress of Llandudno, the Deputy Mayor of the Bay of Colwyn Council, several councillors from Conwy Borough and Llandudno Town Councils, plus members from many other associations and organisations.
Family relatives of one of those boys who paid the ultimate sacrifice have been located and will be attending the service to lay a family wreath.
The event is in support of nationwide efforts to gain recognition for what is often referred to as 'the Forgotten Service'.
