A drag star is set to light up the stage with a night of cabaret, comedy and bold performance.
North Wales audiences will be treated to a "fully-fledged theatre experience" as drag artist Marmalade, known for her appearance on season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, brings her variety show Marm’s Spotlight to Bangor as part of a UK tour.
The show will take place at Pontio Arts Centre on February 7.
Marmalade said: "With the help of the funding, we can transform the show from a drag cabaret into fully-fledged theatre experience by creating a script, designing a set, hosting rehearsals and more, to create a unique show for audiences, that’ll also highlight the amazing queer performers who’ll be joining us for the show."
The event is produced by Daniel Huw Bowen on behalf of The Queer Emporium, a Cardiff-based LGBTQ+ non-profit and venue.
Funding from the Arts Council of Wales is supporting the project as it transitions from cabaret to theatre in time for its Manchester tour stop.
Bangor will be the second stop on the tour.
The concept for Marm’s Spotlight was inspired by Marmalade’s time on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, where she was celebrated for her fashion skills.
Her mother appeared during an episode, and Marmalade said she wanted to "share the spotlight" with the woman who had supported her throughout her life.
That idea grew into a show designed to uplift other LGBTQ+ performers.
Featured in the cast are North Wales comedian Katie Gill and drag artist Miss Terri Boxx.
Directed by Elan Isaac, with material by Priya Hall and creative support from Leo Drayton, the show’s production team also includes set design and creation by Yan White.
