A COLWYN Bay care home has changed hands and is now part of a group of family-run homes across North Wales.

Merton Place, which offers 54 registered places for elderly adults requiring residential, nursing, or palliative care, was sold by ClwydAlyn to Fairways Care Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

The purpose-built home on Pwllycrochan Avenue was established by ClwydAlyn in 2011 and was praised by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) in its February 2025 report for its variety of activities, high-quality nutritious food, and high standards of care delivered by “well-trained and responsive staff.”

Fairways Care has eight care homes across North Wales whilst ClwydAlyn, a housing association location on St Asaph Business Park, manages more than 6,800 homes across North and Mid-Wales, including general rented housing, affordable homes, care homes, supported and independent living schemes.

The company will continue to operate its other residential care homes, including Llys Marchan in Ruthin and Chirk Court in Wrexham.

A spokesperson for ClwydAlyn said: “ClwydAlyn took the strategic decision to move away from the provision of nursing care and agreed the purchase of Merton Place in Colwyn Bay with Fairways Care Ltd in September 2025.

“ClwydAlyn remains committed to providing the highest levels of care for older people.

"Moving forward, we will continue to operate our two residential care homes and our 10 independent living schemes.

"We are also working with partners to explore innovative new care models, proactively supporting Welsh Government’s strategic priority to look at how care is provided across Wales for the future.”

Fairways Care, which also operates Eryl Fryn in Llandudno; Ty Cariad Dementia Care Centre in Abergele; Ceris Newydd Nursing Home and Glyn Menai Dementia Care Centre in Menai Bridge; Fairways Newydd in Llanfairpwll, Anglesey; Fairways Nursing Home in Trearddur Bay, Anglesey; and Stansty House in Wrexham, has been in operation for 30 years.

Fairways Care has been approached for comment.
