STAFF at a residential care home in Llandudno are celebrating after being awarded the top five-star food hygiene rating.

Moorcroft, situated on Fferm Bach Road, Craig y Don, is registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) to cater for 24 people and provides 24-hour long-term care for the elderly who require assistance with day-to-day tasks.

The home, operated by Marcus and Jayne Wilkes, were delighted to receive the top rating again.

Marcus said: "Once again, our kitchen team have done us proud.

"The whole team works extremely hard, not only in providing amazing nutritional menus, but their attention to detail on food hygiene and food standards is second to none.

"I am so pleased for them that this has again been recognised with a rating of five with zero contraventions and also zero recommendations."

The inspection took place on January 29. Inspectors rated Hygienic food handling, Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and Management of food safety all as “Very good”.

Each individual at Moorcroft has a care plan with details of dietary requirements, hobbies and life stories.

The home prides itself on providing a sociable and enriching environment for residents.

Activities to date have included dominoes, a visit from Sparkles the pony, making fat balls for bird feeders, visits from Mojo Crafts, cheese and wine afternoons, a host of different singers, singalongs, crafts with school pupils, chair exercise, therapy dogs, cake decorating, wreath decorating, reminiscence sessions, and visits from other animals, including Scaly Safari.
