Work on the off-road path to connect Glan Conwy and Llandudno Junction for walking, cycling and wheeling started in March 2025.
The route is designed to make journeys easier, safer and more accessible for pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair users and people with prams and mobility scooters.
Funded mostly by UK Government, the 2km finished route will include a 3m wide shared-use path, two new bridges crossing over the Conwy Valley Railway line and the Afon Ganol, and environmentally sensitive lighting to make it suitable for year-round use.
Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders recently visited the site of the new active travel route to see the progress being made on the project.
A project to deliver a connection between the two towns has been in the works for more than 20 years.
The work is being carried out by the Colwyn Bay–based firm Jennings Building and Civil Engineering Ltd, and materials have also been sourced locally where possible, including British steel and stone from Ruthin for the bridge.
The scheme will include a 3-metre-wide shared-used path, and the construction of two new bridges crossing the Conwy Valley Railway Line and the Afon Ganol.
The project is expected to be completed by July 2026.
The Railway bridge is being constructed off-site, with installation scheduled for the spring.
To prepare for the bridge installation, work within Green Seat layby started in January - the layby will be closed until May.
Mrs Finch-Saunders said of the project: "It was great to visit the site and see the progress being made on the important project connecting Glan Conwy and Llandudno Junction.
"Once completed, this route will provide a safe and accessible link for walkers, cyclists and families, while allowing people to enjoy one of the most scenic routes in Wales.
"Improving local connectivity and providing safer routes for active travel is incredibly important for our communities, and it is encouraging to see the incredible work progressing well.”
