NEARLY £10,000 has been raised to help a devoted mum-of-one who is in hospital in Tenerife fighting for her life.
Jade Bird, from Abergele and a single mother to Skyla, was taken ill last week while waiting at the airport for her flight home. She was rushed to hospital, where scans revealed an infection on her brain.
The 33-year-old was placed in an induced coma, but her condition later worsened after she contracted meningitis.
Jade's sister in law Victoria Bird, of Rhuallt, and Jade's mum Janine have flown out to Tenerife to be at her bedside.
Friend Joanne McIver, who set up a GoFundMe page with friend Abbie to support Jade’s family with the costs associated with a medical emergency overseas - including medical expenses, accommodation, and travel - has shared an update on her condition.
Posting on the fundraiser, Joanne said: “Jade remains sedated so doctors can help keep her stable. They have explained that they are continuing to keep her sedated because when she begins to come around, she becomes extremely agitated.
“Their concern right now is that although Jade is starting to wake slightly at times, she is not responding neurologically in the way they would hope. The team are monitoring her very closely.

“Jade has an MRI scan and EEG scheduled for tomorrow, which will help doctors assess the swelling and look for any damage to the brain. We are hoping this will give a clearer picture of what is happening and what the next steps might be.
