Search the Public Notice PortalDEVELOPMENTS and new stores are reshaping Llandudno’s retail and housing scene, with several projects set to complete in 2026.
From a new 77-home, 100 per cent affordable housing scheme to the arrival of homeware giant Dunelm and upgrades to Llandudno’s street furniture, this guide looks at what’s underway, what’s due to finish this year, and the projects that appear to have slowed or stalled.
Dunelm - Mostyn Champneys (at the former Wilko unit)
Dunelm will be opening a new store at the former Wilko site at Mostyn Champneys Retail Park in Llandudno.
Work has begun on the site, with Dunelm confirming to the Pioneer that the new store is scheduled to open in July.

A spokesperson for Dunelm said: "Work has begun on the site, with the new store scheduled to open in July 2026.
"We’re excited to be bringing Dunelm to the town, creating new local job opportunities, and we look forward to sharing more details in the coming months."
Dunelm is set to generate up to 25 jobs, including up to five full-time positions.
Plans for alterations to the unit were approved by the council in December 2025
ClwydAlyn affordable housing scheme - Builder Street
A development of 77, energy efficient homes which will feature one, two, three and four-bedroom homes for families and for the over 55’s is nearing completion.
The ClwydAlyn development, near Llandudno Train Station, will provide '100 per cent affordable' homes. The homes are designed as lifetime homes and can be adapted to the changing needs of the residents, helping people to live independently for longer.
The Builder Street site first underwent work in 2022, but was halted after Warrington-based developers Lane End Developments Construction entered administration in April 2023. Construction resumed in March 2024.
ClwydAlyn has confirmed to the Pioneer that a handover of the homes and apartments is scheduled to take place between the end of June and the end of July.
The scheme is set to be made of:
- 26 x One Bedroom Apartment
- 30 x Two Bedroom Apartment
- 10 x Two Bedroom Homes
- 10 x Three Bedroom Homes
- 1 x Four Bedroom Homes
Heavenly Desserts - Llandudno Victoria Centre
Located at Unit 63, the stylish new venue offers treat-seekers Heavenly Desserts’ signature handcrafted desserts and indulgent brunch favourites.
The Franchise Partner at Heavenly Desserts Llandudno said: “We envisage adding a gem that complements Llandudno’s scenic beauty, turning good vibes into heavenly moments with exceptionally well-crafted food and a chic atmosphere."
Bodafon Farm Park (slowed / halted)
Llandudno's Bodafon Farm Park closed to visitors in September 2023 after two decades.
In 2024, curiosity grew when a new wooden sign appeared at the park’s entrance reading: 'Bodafon Farm Park – Temporarily Closed.'
In May 2024, Mostyn Estates confirmed to the Pioneer that they had plans for the site.

In a statement, they said: "The erection of the new signage at the Bodafon Farm entrance is one of many works being undertaken to improve the overall appearance of the site. As the sign states, Bodafon Farm Park itself is temporarily closed to the public.
"We're pleased that the Owl's Trust have continued to commit to Bodafon and provide a remarkable sanctuary for the species."
They added: "As to the future, we will be making an announcement at the appropriate point but needless to say we have plans for the farm park."
The Pioneer has approached Mostyn Estates several times over the years seeking updates on the site.
In early 2026, the property management company told the Pioneer that they currently had no news to share regarding Bodafon Farm Park.
The former Penmorfa site - Llandudno's West Shore (halted)
Earlier his year, the Pioneer reported that the site of Alice Liddell's holiday home had been taken off the market.
The land, where the second home of Alice Liddell once stood, the girl said to have inspired the Alice in Wonderland tales, has lain empty for years.
Anwyl Homes had hoped to transform the former Penmorfa site on West Shore into apartments.

Proposals for redevelopment of Penmorfa were being worked on. A consultation process was due to start in spring 2021, with a full planning application scheduled for submission that summer.
Building costs and other issues caused setbacks, and Anwyl Homes ended up putting the site up for sale with Legat Owen, with hopes of transforming it into residential apartments or a healthcare-related development.
However, the property is now off the market.
Anwyl Homes confirmed the site is not being actively marketed at present, but a range of options are being considered.
A spokesperson for Anwyl said: “We continue to consider a range of options for the site and remain committed to ensuring the site is redeveloped.”
Lidl - Llandudno
Lidl continues to explore options to bring new stores to Llandudno, Abergele and Rhyl.
In April 2025, the Pioneer and the Rhyl Journal reported that the budget chain had hopes to build new stores in Llandudno, Abergele and Rhyl.
The retailer also listed Caernarfon as a potential new store site.
The plans are part of the German-owned chain's intention to open more than 40 new stores in the current financial year and invest half a billion pounds.
In a new statement, Lidl confirmed that it continues to explore plans to bring stores to the above earmarked sites, with active requirements still in place.
Lidl already has a store in Llandudno Junction.
The chain has plans to relocate stores in Bangor, Colwyn Bay, Gwersyllt, Holyhead and Pwllheli.
Railings replacement and refurbishment of benches - Mostyn Street / North Western Gardens
Railings on Mostyn Street in Llandudno between Lloyds Bank and Go Outdoors on Mostyn Street are being replaced as well as railings near the Cats Protection.
Benches at North Western Gardens will be also be refurbished as part of the project.
The work comes after Llandudno Town Council secured £15,000 for town centre improvements through the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme.

A statement from Llandudno Town Council said: “The works have been commissioned by Llandudno Town Council, which has also provided match funding to help deliver these improvements for the community.”
The statement added: “These improvements will help maintain and enhance public spaces for residents and visitors alike.”
Llandudno Colonnade
Crowds gathered to celebrate the heavily anticipated re-launch of the Llandudno Colonnade on Friday (March 20).
Plans were first outlined in 2023, to return of the site to its former glory.
A ribbon cutting, on Friday, was carried by Edward Hiller, managing director of Mostyn Estates, who first commissioned the creation of the Colonnade in the 1930. The event featured performances by Llandudno Swing Band and Linzi Grace School of Dance.
Works have been undertaken to preserve its character, improve safety and accessibility, and ensure that the Colonnade can continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors "for generations to come".
Funding for the project came from a joint investment by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and the Welsh Government Brilliant Basics Fund, to the tune of £300,000.
A spokesperson from Conwy County Borough Council said: "There’s been extensive refurbishment of the Colonnade.
"In addition to the work completed so far, there are interpretation panels and seating to be installed at a later date.
"We are also finalising funding to replace lighting columns on the upper deck, and the Planning Application for Listed Building Consent is currently going through the planning process."
Llandudno Train Station - new direct service to Liverpool
Transport for Wales is to introduce one of the "most significant timetable changes for North Wales in a generation" this May.
The shake-up takes in services from Llandudno and Llandudno Junction stations.
There will be a significant increase in train frequency and capacity between Chester and Llandudno Junction and the Liverpool to Chester service is being extended to Llandudno, offering new direct travel opportunities.
From May 17, passengers will benefit from a completely redesigned timetable covering all routes north and west of Shrewsbury and Crewe (excluding services between Wrexham and Bidston).
Key changes for North Wales coast and borders:
- Trains from Manchester Airport to Llandudno will now serve Holyhead instead, improving links to Northwest England and enhancing ferry connections to Ireland from Manchester.
- The Liverpool - Chester service will be extended to Llandudno
- The Birmingham - North Wales service (including from Birmingham International Airport) - currently every two hours - will operate to and from Llandudno Junction, not Holyhead.
- The separate Wrexham - Chester and Chester - Crewe hourly services are being combined into one through service.
- A new service pattern will improve commuting options to Holyhead and Bangor,
- Valley station will become a compulsory call on all relevant services
Network Rail has plans to modernise Llandudno railway station. Proposals include the installation of a freestanding 65-inch digital screen at the station entrance.
The screen will be used for advertising, emergency alerts, and customer information such as train updates and service delays.
