WE HOPPED along to the magical world of Meadow Farm for an egg-cellent Easter adventure!
Magic Light Productions, the team behind Theatr Colwyn’s much-loved Christmas pantomimes, brought their latest show The Magic of Meadow Farm to the stage for two special performances on April 10 and 11.
From the moment the curtain rose at Theatr Colwyn, we were swept into the charming world of Farmer Tilly Trotter (Stuart Loughland) and her two delightfully clumsy farmhands, Bobby Barnyard (Dean Raymond) and Bertie Bumble (Steve Bloor), as they scrambled to crack the mystery of the missing golden egg.
The show flowed effortlessly, with strong performances throughout, supported by the talented young performers from Pearl Shaw School of Performing Arts. Their energy added an extra layer of charm and vibrancy to the production.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an Easter panto without plenty of egg puns - and the show delivered them in abundance! There were lots of laugh-out-loud moments, particularly a gag involving the farmhands attempting to milk a cow, only for the stool to repeatedly collapse for poor Bertie!
One standout scene featured Farmer Tilly trying to bake a cake while listening to the radio - except the station kept changing, from gardening tips to keep-fit routines. Oblivious to the constant station changes, she carried on regardless - adding ingredients based on whatever instructions came through, even going so far as to put her dough mixture into a grow bag. It was brilliantly chaotic and had the audience in stitches.
The costumes added more fun, especially when the farmhands disguised themselves as ducks in a hilariously over-the-top attempt to blend in. And there was cuteness overload when young audience members took to the stage for a lively rendition of Old MacDonald, complete with sweet animal impressions.
At its heart, the show carried a simple but lovely Easter message, delivered by the Easter Bunny: that true magic comes from kindness and friendship.
The production was bright, colourful, and full of life, and as always, Magic Light Productions delighted the audience with a fantastic puppet show after the interval, complete with lively music.
Perhaps the biggest compliment of all? Our little ones - aged one and four - sat through almost the entire show. Any parent will know that’s no small feat, and it speaks volumes about the captivating spell of a Magic Light Productions pantomime.
The Magic of Meadow Farm was a joyful, funny, and heartwarming - the perfect Easter family entertainment.
