THERE has been quite a splash of activity at Conwy’s paddling pools - even before they’re fully back in action.
Families heading to Rhos-on-Sea park, where the paddling pool is based, on Friday evening (May 22) might have noticed work underway as preparations continue to get the popular summer space ready for the season.
Due to essential maintenance work, the Rhos-on-Sea paddling pool is set to open slightly later than planned on Thursday, May 28. The work has been delayed due to recent weather conditions but is necessary to ensure the pool is safe and ready for families to enjoy this summer.
Despite the short delay at Rhos-on-Sea, it’s good news elsewhere in the county, with three out of the four paddling pools already open:
- Craig y Don
- Llanfairfechan
- Penmaenmawr
Ffit Conwy said in a statement: "Three out of our four paddling pools are ready to enjoy this weekend and throughout the summer season.
"Due to essential maintenance work, Rhos-on-Sea will now open slightly later than planned, on Thursday, May 28. The work has been delayed due to recent weather conditions but is necessary to ensure the pool is safe for you and your family to enjoy.
"Thank you for your patience – we can’t wait to welcome you."

The re-opening of the paddling pools comes as Conwy is set to enjoy unusually warm weather over the Bank Holiday weekend, with temperatures forecast to reach around 20C on Sunday and as high as 26C on Bank Holiday Monday.
Penmaenmawr Town Council said in a statement: "We know many local families and visitors look forward to the paddling pool reopening each year, particularly with the warmer weather arriving, and we appreciate everyone’s patience whilst the necessary preparation works and testing have been completed.
"Conwy County Borough Council has advised that extensive maintenance and improvement works have been undertaken across the county’s paddling pools over the past 12 months to prepare them for the 2026 season."
The statement added: "We hope residents and visitors enjoy the facility over the coming months - and as always, please help keep the area clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy."
