Colwyn Bay community panto hailed a success

Conwy County Council’s Theatr Colwyn Joint Management Committee will meet next week to discuss a report about the Colwyn Bay venue’s Beauty and the Beast panto last Christmas.

A report shows the production by Colwyn Bay-based Magic Light Productions drew audiences of 7,175 during its run from December 2025 to early January 2026.

The production had a total capacity of 8,325 seats.

The report stated: “Attendance remained consistently strong across the majority of the run, with several performances operating close to full capacity. A reduction in attendance was observed in a small number of performances towards the end of the run.”

The production employs local performers, working in partnership with local dance schools, to provide opportunities for young people to participate.

Cllr Dilwyn Roberts is the cabinet member responsible for culture and the theatre and praised the success.

He said: “I am very impressed with the way Theatr Colwyn and Magic Light Productions have been working together and giving local people the opportunity of being involved in such productions – also the importance placed on communicating and involving the wider community, which is surely reflected in the attendance figures. Well done and thank you to all involved.”

The report stated tickets for the 2026 pantomime are already on sale, with 606 sold. The committee will meet at Theatr Colwyn on Monday, 29 June.
