A POTTERY painting café is proving it is made of the right stuff, going from strength to strength as visitors flock to get creative and add a splash of colour to their day.
The Clay Café, at the Rhos Fynach in Rhos-on-Sea, offers a relaxed space where customers can pick up a brush and transform plain ceramics into personalised keepsakes, from mugs and plates to ornaments and gifts.
It has quickly become a popular spot for all ages, with families, friends and first-timers alike embracing the chance to unwind, get creative and see their ideas come to life in paint.
Husband and wife Justin and Kate Tilley own the Rhos Fynach.
“Since opening, we have been overwhelmed,” Kate said.
“We’ve loved it and it has just been really popular. We’ve had grandparents bring their grandchildren, we’ve had families - not a scream in sight, just lots of interaction and creativity.
“Our kiln has been on overdrive every single night. In our first month, we did more than 200 orders.”
The venue opened on April 27 in the pavilion on-site, which has been transformed into the Clay Café.
There is no studio fee - customers simply pay for what they paint. Food and drink are available from the Rhos Fynach menu.
Talking about some of the most popular items, Kate said: “We’ve got a full range of animals. Children are enjoying painting money boxes and cake boxes.
“Adults are going for bowls or plates, and we’ve got a huge range I’m glad to say.”
The Clay Café will host 'Paws, Portraits & Pottery' on Saturday, July 4 with Natalie J Griffiths from 10am to 12pm.

Visitors can bring along their pets for a unique pottery experience, with Natalie creating a hand-doodled portrait on a chosen pottery piece. For more information and to book, click here.

The Clay Café is open daily from 10am to 6pm. Sessions can be booked online, with walk-ins also welcome.
All glazing and firing is carried out on site.
