A WINE bar forced to close during the pandemic has been given a new lease of life.

Waterfront has opened in Deganwy after the former Prohibition Wine Bar ceased trading last summer.

It followed a difficult year with zero cashflow for the Station Road bar was left empty for months with jobs lost.

Mon Interiors, based in Llandudno Junction, saw an opportunity to reinvigorate the space with the chance of attracting some of the 250,000 that visit Llandudno each year, with a boost in visitors expected amid travel concerns and restrictions.

The interior branding specialist worked over the last 12 months to create the contemporary space, which will offer fine wines and nibbles.

“One of the things we aimed to achieve on this project was a luxury destination that is sensitive to its surroundings,” said Jennifer Williams lead interior designer and owner of Mon Interiors. “A nod to the seaside location - but without being too predictably ‘coastal’.”

This multi-thousand-pound revamp has been backed by Deganwy county councillor Julie Fallon, who said the coalition is the perfect demonstration of community spirit and drive.

She said: “Located in the heart of Deganwy, on Station Road, the venue used to be home of Prohibition wine bar, which closed during the pandemic. With a new lease of life, it’s been transformed into a sophisticated space. It looks great, and I can’t wait to visit it myself as a patron.

“I’m very thrilled to hear of local businesses doing well and working together, especially after the impacts of the pandemic.

"This is exactly what the area needs and here’s to a prosperous summer.”
