THERE was a bumper mix of some highly talented and mixed ability athletes at the Coronation Day parkrun at Conwy last Saturday (May 6).

It again staged in very humid conditions and attracted many entrants dressed in colourful royal tribute costumes, with cake also available.

North Wales Road Runners Club (NWRRC) entered 16 members and had two of their top runners in the first three finishers in addition to claiming eight podium places and three age cat winners.

NWRRC veteran Martin Green finished second overall in 17.41, and he also won his MV45 age cat, with club colleague Steve Forsyth third, and the MV40 winner, just three seconds behind Martin.

Harry Driscoll finished eighth and he won his SM20-24 cat in 19.30, whilst Karl Morris was back to form in 18th place in 21.25, with Will Williams opting for a quieter recovery run this week in 19th place and third MV50 cat in 21.34.

Jamie Tharme was another athlete taking things steady, and he was 21st in 21.50, with Steve Roberts the third MV55 cat in 37th place overall in 22.57.

Gethin Wyn Jones finished in 67th place overall in 24.28, and veteran Rob Fryer had a good run finishing 96th and 3rd MV65 cat in 25.53.

And it was good to welcome Carla Green back to parkrun, and she enjoyed a steady run in 105th place overall in 26.14, with master vet Mark Mason 117th, and second MV70 cat, in 26.52.

Fellow master vet Don Hale continued with his recovery plan in 136th place in 28.25 and third MV70 cat.

Meanwhile, newcomer Darren Griss finished 170th in 29.39, and Vicky Taylor made a rare parkrun outing in 181st place in 30.26, with Rachel Morris 227th in 33.28, and Gwennan Charlton running with her youngster finished 305th in 43.21.

Other NWRRC race results

York: Llyr ApGeraint-Roberts celebrated a new course PB of 17.58 at the York parkrun last Saturday and he also claimed first place in his MV50 age cat.

He said this was a vast improvement from his last visit some six years before.

Ras Moel Ellio: Husband and wife travelling duo Sarah and Ben Hudson took on the unusual role of race sweepers last Saturday at the Ras Moel Ellio fell race.

Following their efforts over a challenging 14k plus course, which the pair completed in about two hours 44 minutes, Sarah admitted: “An awesome afternoon as sweepers. So much fun and a tough little cookie of a run for sure.”

Market Drayton: Richard Eccles enjoyed another positive run at the Market Drayton 10k last Sunday finishing in 32nd place overall in 38.31, and he also won his MV55 age cat.

Richard has also confirmed his worthy selection for the Wales team vs England in the half-marathon international fixture within the Chester half-marathon race on May 21.

Chorley: Cai Roberts and Kelly-Marie Alford ran together in the Chorley 10k on Sunday with Kelly-Marie claiming a new four-minute course PB of 52.26, in 366th place, with Cai just one place and two-seconds ahead of her.

Alderley Edge: Will Williams seems to go faster with every race, and fresh from his dual 5k successes from last week, Will set a new 10k course PB at Alderley Edge on Sunday, finishing 44th overall out of 1,399 runners in a fast chip time of 36.51, and he was also second in his MV50 age cat.

After the event, he was obviously delighted with his result and confirmed: “I was chuffed to get under 37 minutes for the very first time.”
