A DEFIBRILLATOR has been installed at a primary school in Rhos-on-Sea.

Ysgol Llandrillo-yn-Rhos is now housing the new equipment at its building entrance after Bay of Colwyn town councillors Glenys Baker and David Howcroft used their ward allowance to purchase and fit the equipment.

They also enlisted the support of Conwy County Borough Council councillor James Lusted, the chair of the school's governing body, and headteacher Gaynor Highcock to deliver the project.

“It is very reassuring to have this piece of equipment available at the school and I thank Cllrs Baker and Howcroft for using their ward allowance to fund it," said Cllr Lusted.

Clwyd West MS, Darren Millar welcomed the installation and thanked the councillors who helped to deliver the project.

“I have long been calling for the delivery of defibrillators in all major public buildings and schools, so I am extremely pleased that one has been installed at the school," he said.

“Having this defibrillator at the school will provide pupils, staff and parents, and the local community, with reassurance should the worst happen.

“Combined with the immediate application of CPR, a defibrillator is the only form of treatment for someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest and if used within three to five minutes of a person collapsing will increase their survival chances from six per cent to 74 per cent.”
