A BMW driver who was more than three times the alcohol limit when he had two collisions received a 14 weeks suspended jail term.

This was on Tuesday (June 8).

Aaron Jones, 47, of Marlborough Drive, Rhos on Sea, was also banned for four years and must undergo a rehabilitation activity and six months alcohol treatment. He has to pay £213 costs after admitting drink-driving.

Prosecutor James Neary told Llandudno court that 7.50pm on May 24 police had been informed of a collision with a parked vehicle at a Mochdre pub. Jones appeared heavily under the influence of alcohol.

Within minutes a cyclist on Llandudno Road, Rhos on Sea, had alerted police to the BMW car going too fast. The BMW lost control on a bend and hit a wall.

Mr Neary said the breath-alcohol reading was 134. The legal limit is 35. There was evidence of “poor driving and a real obvious danger to members of the public.” Jones had a previous drink-driving conviction in 2014.

Andrew Hutchinson, defending, said Jones moved from Wirral to North Wales because he was gay and subjected to homophobia. He felt isolated, had anxiety and depression, and had been drinking. Jones was on benefits.

A probation officer said Jones had paranoid thoughts. He was on medication but continued to drink daily.

District judge Gwyn Jones told the defendant he put himself and others “in grave danger.”
