HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised for a child safeguarding organisation thanks to a fundraising football match.

Rydal Penrhos School took on North Wales Dragons at Llandudno FC’s Giant Hospitality Stadium on Sunday, January 21, with all proceeds raised going towards The Offside Trust.

The Dragons used the wind to their advantage in the first period and went into the break with a slender advantage thanks to an own goal from JD Welsh Premier League referee and staff member Mark Petch.

After the break saw a strike from Ben Hingley double their advantage, but Rydal Penrhos responded well to the setback and reduced the arrears soon after when former pupil Harvey Holmes produced a deft finish over Stephen O’Neill.

This provoked another strong response from the Dragons, who sealed the victory late on when striker Tom King produced a composed finish past Darren Baker.

Communications Assistant Dean Jones, said: “Considering we had not played or trained together as a team it was a good performance and I would like to thank North Wales Dragons, Llandudno Football Club and everyone who played and supported.

“The Offside Trust is a great cause and they are doing so much good, so we were delighted to show our support to them and there is still time to donate for anyone wishing to do so.”

Donations are being taken until Wednesday, January 31, with more than £200 raised so far.
