GLAN Conwy secured derby bragging rights with an emphatic 5-1 win at rivals Mochdre Sports.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two leaders made light work of their opponents in another dominant display, and they opened the scoring after just eight minutes when Matthew Sykes found the net.

This provoked a strong response from the home side, who levelled matter on 34 minutes when the prolific Jordan Phillips netted from the spot, but this joy proved to be short lived as the visitors struck back immediately with two goals in a minute on 36 and 37 through David Lowndes and Sam Sinkinson, who netted on his first game back following a long lay-off.

After the break saw Glan further improve their tally when veteran forward Ashley Smith continued his excellent recent form with another well-taken effort on 67 minutes after another impressive spell of possession.

There was still time for the away side to rub more salt into the Mochdre wound, and Shaheen Ahmed’s superb strike on 77 minutes completed the rout, which leaves Glan 16 points clear of Prestatyn Sports having played an astonishing nine games more than their title rivals.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix exited the Take Stock Van Hire Challenge Cup at the second round stage following a 2-1 defeat at Pentraeth.

The visitors got off to a flyer when Charles Thompson netted within the first minute, but they finally relented to the Pen pressure after the break which led to goals from Jack Diamond and Aled Hughes.
