COLWYN Bay have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of experienced forward Ashley Ruane.

The 33-year-old arrives at the Four Crosses Construction Arena after a hugely successful spell at JD Welsh Premier League side Cefn Druids, where he helped Huw Griffiths’ men secure a Europa League spot after the most memorable season in the Ancients’ history.

Manager Alan Morgan, said: “We needed someone like Ashley to play on the shoulder and hopefully we can create chances for him because he will always score goals.”

Ruane was also part of the famous Warrington Town side that beat League Two outfit Exeter City in the FA Cup, and played a significant role for Connah’s Quay Nomads in their success over Norwegian side Stabaek in the Europa Cup during the 2016/17 season.

The prolific striker, who has also represented Rhyl during his career, has big shoes to fill following the departures of Jack Hindle and top scorer Astley Mulholland, who both departed for ambitious National League side Barrow earlier this summer.

Coach Neil Coverley, added: “We feel Ashley will improve us and he has been on the gaffer’s radar for a while.

“He will fit into our philosophy and have a positive contribution to the dressing room.”

The Seagulls began their first officially day of pre-season training on Saturday at Vauxhall Motors FC, although a number of players are away on holiday and are expected back for Tuesday’s session at Tranmere Rovers training ground.

Will Booth had to sit the session after injuring an ankle while out for a run on holiday last week and is set to miss the majority of their friendly fixtures ahead of the Evo-stik League campaign.
