CENTURY knocks from Matthew Humphreys and James French steered Mochdre to an emphatic 175-run success at Llanrwst.

The North Wales Cricket League Division One title contenders recovered from losing Stewart Williams (17) early on thanks to a sensational stand from the duo, who put them in a commanding position that the Rwsters were unable to reach during their time in the middle.

French produced a series of exceptional strokes before he was eventually skittled by Trefor Williams after making 130, with the talented Humphreys remaining resolute throughout to end the day unbeaten on 105 as the away side posted a formidable target of 293-3 from their 50 overs at the crease.

The hosts got off to a poor start with the bat as Aron Hughes (4) and Joseph Guy (0) were both out at the hands of Kyle Brown, before Williams took over with the wickets of Scott Thomas (28), Meirion Layton (4), Alex Evans (0) and Trefor Williams (2) to finish on 4013 from an eight-over spell.

Home skipper Aled Hughes tried to make a fight of it with 25 not out, but he ran out of partners at the other end as they collapsed to 118 all out in reply.

The result leaves Mochdre in third spot and just 15 points behind leaders Bethesda ahead of their trip to second place Pontblyddyn on Saturday, with Llanrwst languishing in the relegation places as they prepare to welcome the league leaders this weekend.
