LLANDUDNO made ground on North Wales Cricket League Premier Division leaders Menai Bridge thanks to an 86-run success at Brymbo.

Youngster Will Sissons made a welcome return to the side after returning from Shrewsbury School, and he made an instant impact with both bat and ball to lead his side to glory.

With Menai Bridge suffering their first loss of the campaign, Jack Rimmington’s side are now 24 points behind the long-time leaders in second spot ahead of their home clash with Gresford on Saturday.

The visitors recovered from losing Sam Rimmington for 18 early on thanks to an impressive stand from Matthew Jones and Keegan Armstrong, who put on 74 for the second wicket before the latter was removed by Ben Roberts on 38.

Sissons then entered the fray and the teenage sensations showed why they are so highly regarded throughout a partnership of 140, with the returning star eventually dismissed on 82 by Connor Davies.

The in-form Jones proved a far more resolute proposition to remove and finished the day unbeaten on 122, with Kevin Jems (17) and Ajay Dhawan (21*) also contributing to their incredible target of 328-5 from their 50 overs in the middle.

Things got off to a great start in the field for the Lions as Tom Thornton clean bowled Gareth Pugh for just three, but the title hopefuls provided some resistance before former Rydal Penrhos School pupil Sissons took over proceedings with the wickets of Greg King (53), Mohamed Jayman (30), Davies (47), George Bourne (2) and Elliot Hughes (0) to end the day with fantastic figures of 5-51 from 12 overs.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides, and Jack Rimmington took out Roberts (39) and Shashiska Meistry (21) to confirm their triumph as the home side mustered 242 all out from 46 overs of play.
