COLWYN Bay assistant Craig Hogg praised his side’s character as they came-from-behind to secure a 3-2 friendly success at Airbus Broughton.

The Seagulls were left rueing a poor opening to proceedings that saw them go two-down within the opening 11 minutes, but Alan Morgan’s men recovered well from the setback to claim bragging rights after a much-improved second half display.

Hogg, said: “We tried a different system and formation at the start of the game, but it was clear after five or 10 minutes that is something we still need more work on.

“We made the decision to change it and switch some personnel around and we got more success in terms of where we wanted the play to be to get certain players on the ball. Fortunately that worked and the players adopted and responded to it really well.

“The important thing is that we are able to respond and overcome challenges we face in games and to come from two goals down to win shows we did that today.

“In the end I think the scoreline flattered Airbus a bit because we were the stronger side second half and should have scored more goals.

“I’m usually not too fussed about pre-season results as it is more about fitness and trying out different things and personnel, but it is good to get wins if you can because that breeds confidence. Winning can become a habit and it would be good to gather some momentum now going into the new season.”

Ryan Edwards and Asa Hamilton gave the Wingmakers a commanding advantage from the opening exchanges, but the visitors were level at the break thanks to well-taken efforts from Danny Andrews and Lass Mendes.

After the break saw the away side go in front for the first time when recent signing Ashley Ruane slotted into the corner to secure the victory, and they continue their preparations ahead of the new Evostik League campaign with a home double-header this week against Bangor City (Tuesday, 7.45pm) and Nantwich Town (Saturday, 3pm).
