MOCHDRE got their North Wales Cricket League Division One promotion push back on track with an 87-run home success over Llay Welfare.

The home side set a target of 224-2 from their 50 overs in the middle, with skipper Matty Humphreys leading the way with a sensational knock to end the day unbeaten on 92.

He was aided at the other end by opener Gareth Colman, who made 60 before he was clean bowled by David Phennah, with Gareth Davies retiring not out on 22 to lend another notable contribution to the overall score.

Russ Boswell got to work early on by taking out the opening partnership of Jacob Roberts (4) and Phennah (28), before Humphreys took over proceedings with the scalps of John Lloyd (16), skipper Nathan Humphreys (23), Tom Parry (0) and Findlay Williams (2) to end his blistering seven-over spell with figures of 4-12.

His performance on both sides of the ball proved to be the difference between the two sides, with Kyle Brown and Scott Brown also taking a pair of wickets apiece as the away side mustered 104 all out in reply.

The result leaves Humphreys’ side in fourth spot in the standings and 13 points behind long-time leaders Bethesda ahead of their trip to Mold on Saturday.
