LLANRWST are now just one point above the North Wales Cricket League Division One drop zone after a seven-wicket loss at title chasing Pontblyddyn.

The Rwsters posted a target of 122 all out from their 42 overs in the middle, thanks in no small part to an outstanding knock from Aron Hughes, who smashed 12 boundaries on his way to 71 before he was caught off a Daz Wilcox delivery.

That was as good as it got for the visitors, with only Carwyn Jones (10) making it into double-figures thereafter as Wlicock produced a mesmerising spell that ended with figures of 4-19.

Scott Thomas tried to make a fight of things with the early wickets of Alistair Roberts and wicketkeeper James Griffiths for nine and 15 respectively, with Trefor Williams trapping home skipper Glenn Chambers lbw after the opening batsman made 39.

This joy proved to be fleeting as Lewis Davies’ composed 32 not out saw the hosts reach their required target with minimal fuss for the loss of three wickets after 23 overs of play.

Things do not get any easier for Aled Hughes’ side this weekend when they host another promotion chasing side in Bersham on Saturday, who come into the game on the back of a resounding victory over Abergele.
