LLANDUDNO manager Iwan Williams could not hide his disappointment as his side fell to an opening day defeat at Aberystwyth Town.

The JD Welsh Premier League top-six hopefuls were second best throughout and had nothing to show for their efforts on a disappointing evening, and Tudno’s new-look squad will look to kick-start their season on Saturday when they travel to Carmarthen Town (2.30pm).

Williams, said: “Things didn’t go to plan in terms of what we have worked on over the last six weeks and how I want us to dominate possession, and we kept going long and I think we played the occasion and not the game.

“It is frustrating and I thought we were a bit toothless when we used the long ball, but that is not our game at all and I feel let down by the more experienced players.

“You reply on them to bail you out when you are under the cosh, and their goal came from a screamer but again we worked this week on not giving Declan (Walker) time on the ball and he gets space and smashes in a 30-yarder.

“You want to win football game and the lads came into the game in great spirits, but nothing came off for us. We are not going to dwell on this, people will be happy we’ve lost but it is a long season and we will bounce back no doubt about that.”

The contest was settled after just 15 minutes when the talented Declan Walker unleashed a ferocious long-range strike into the top corner, and the home side would have been further clear had it not been for Tudno stopper Shaun Pearson pulling off a number of smart saves to keep his side in the contest.

After the break saw John Owen narrowly miss the target with a header from close range, but that was as good as it got for the visitors during what was a lacklustre start to their top flight campaign.
