A TEENAGE golf sensation continued his sensational run of recent achievements with national and international success.

Reuben Bather, a Year 10 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, was selected as a Welsh representative at the European Young Masters, which took place at Hauger Golf Club in Norway.

The 15-year-old sports scholar and junior captain at Maesdu Golf Club in Llandudno performed well on a difficult course to finish in 17th position overall, and was the second-placed golfer from the United Kingdom competing at the event.

This has propelled his European U16 ranking to 14 after a series of sensational performances throughout the campaign, further enhancing his reputation as one of the brightest young golfers anywhere on the continent.

Reuben gave further evidence of this at the recent England Boys’ U16 Open Championship, where he finished in sixth position overall and scooped the Jean Case Trophy for the best U15 golfer at the showcase.

He managed to shoot a three-under-par opening round to provide a solid foundation at Kendlestone Park Golf Club, before holding his nerve in his third and final round to shoot one-over.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “For Reuben to not only be competing against, but thriving amongst the best young golfers throughout Europe is a testament to how much natural talent he has and how hard he is working to get the very most out of it.

“We are delighted with how he has developed since joining Rydal Penrhos, and Reuben’s future is incredibly bright if he continues to show the same application to improving his game in the months and years ahead.”
