TWO sailing sensations turned in a fine performance at a national competition recently.

Ewan Luke and Zac Blomeley, Lower Sixth Form pupils at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, competed against the best young talent in the country at the Zhik UK 2018 29er Class National and Open Championship, which was held at Hayling Sailing Club.

The duo were competing in the Gold Fleet in a gruelling series of races, and they put themselves in contention early on thanks to a series of impressive finishes.

They continued this form throughout and managed to secure a tenth placed finish overall to continue their exceptional run of results during what has been a standout campaign to date.

The pair also represented Great Britain at the Eurocup in Poland recently, and they further enhanced their growing reputation with an outstanding result that saw them emerge as the top Team GB boat at the event on their way to ninth spot overall.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Ewan and Zac are the crowning jewels in our thriving sailing programme, with their success serving as a great source of inspiration to younger members of the Rydal Penrhos community who are looking to follow in their footsteps.

“They are incredibly hard-working and have shown a great willingness to test themselves with a view to improving their overall development, and this has led to their rise as two of the best young talents anywhere in the country.”
